Birds of Belize
Belize and Copal Tree's diverse habitats are a birding paradise along the migratory routes of numerous Northern and Southern American species, hosting hundreds of Tropical and Neotropical birds. Spotting over 200 species in five days is common due to the few human inhabitants and dedicated preservation efforts.
Situated amidst a lush expanse of lowland broadleaf forest, Copal Tree is perfect for both serious and novice birdwatchers. The Rio Grande River meanders through the property, and 30,000 acres of protected land form its eastern boundary. From atop Big Hill, birdwatchers enjoy uninterrupted jungle views and sightings of soaring raptors.
The gardens and citrus groves at the property's base also attract a variety of birds. Our guides, avid bird watchers themselves, love sharing the rich avian life of Copal Tree and Belize. Mentored by leading experts like Dr. Lee Jones, author of "Birds of Belize," they offer a remarkable depth of avian knowledge.

“One of the most amazing places we have ever been, tropical birds everywhere & even went on the sunset cruise which was very fun, & surprisingly amazing with plenty of birds to admire & even got to see a coatimundi.”

“If you are looking for a secluded getaway in the midst of the rainforest, then look no further. I absolutely adored staying out at the lodge & exploring the grounds on the hiking trails. One tour that stood out was the half-day birdwatching. Our guide Matt was thoroughly knowledgeable & took us to various hotspots where we saw 33 bird species & even a family of howler monkeys!”

“September is an ideal time to visit - it is peak time for butterflies, bird migration is underway, & the weather is great. Birders of every experience level will have a great experience & photographers will be able to get unobstructed shots! We recorded 126 species in 4 days & saw at least 120 of those. Plenty of birds still left to see on our future vacations.”
